El genio musical de Penilla se manifiesta con la misma intensidad  tanto en su composición como en su interpretación. Su presencia en el escenario dista de ser explosiva o imponente, pero no por ello menos sobrecogedora gracias a su concentración en los más mínimos detalles. En cada nota, solencio y síncopa Penilla imprime el dinamismo cuyo goce estético raya en el estado de trance.

A esto hay que sumar las técnicas preferidas por el músico, el "tapping" que realiza con ambas manos sobre los trastes del bajo y con lo que dota al  instrumento de posibilidades sonoras que se acercan más a las ofrecidas por un piano.

Demostró con esta ejecución que el bajo puede ser mucho más que un simple acompañamiento y que tiene una amplia gama de sonidos y texturas. "Este sábado, La Jacaranda Cultural Pátzcuaro (calle Dr Coss 4, centro) tendrá por tercera ocasión a Francisco Penilla, un jóven músico tapatío que interpreta el bajo eléctrico. De hecho, como dijo la codirectora del espacio, Kitzia González Simón, todo su programa será con el bajo “cosa que lo hace particular porque por lo general, el bajo es pate de otros conjuntos musicales”.

“Son composiciones originales de Francisco Penilla, quien trae una propuesta muy particular -agregó González Simón- él técnicamente es un músico my talentoso pero también tiene una sensibilidad fuerte con la que crea atmósferas que llenan los espacios, que vibran y atraviesan, vale la pena ir a escucharlo”.
